Hello friends, My name is Mutua. I am 16 years old.

Who We Are

Elimu Fund’s main activity is to act as vehicle to facilitate the delivery of your generous donations (tablets, laptops, smartphones, data bundles, etc) to needy Kenyan teenagers so that they can access digital learning platforms and online tutoring.

Shocking Facts

Kenya is a small country in the eastern part of Africa that is famous for its wildlife, beautiful tourist attractions, talented athletes, and most notably, being the home to President Barack Obama’s father. A cool place indeed, but according to the latest statistics, ONLY:

  • 1
26% of teens aged 14-17 attend high school
  • 2
23% of teens in rural areas attend high school
  • 3
45% of teens in urban areas attend high school
  • 4
10.4% of Kenyans have access to a computer
  • 5
One in five Kenyans has access to the Internet
  • 6
22% of Kenyan households have Internet access
  • 7
17% of Kenyans in rural areas have access to the Internet
  • 8
22.6% of Kenyans aged 3 years and above use the Internet
  • 9
25% of Kenyans are Mobile Internet users, compared to 95% in America
The Challenge

These are very disturbing statistics, especially for Kenya, which is supposed to be one of the most advanced countries in Africa.

They paint a worrying picture about the state of education in the country, particularly in rural Kenya, where access to the Internet and digital technologies is woefully low when compared to the urban parts of the country.

Rural Kenyan teens face a wide range of challenges when it comes to integrating technology into their classrooms, worsened by limited infrastructure, connectivity, and access to digital devices, which means that their access to learning technology is extremely limited.

Without adequate access to digital technologies, access to quality education for these rural Kenyan teenagers is severely limited.

This has to change!

The Solution

This is where Elimu Fund comes in.

I founded Elimu Fund, a non-profit, teen-for-teens organization, to help ensure that high school Kenyan teenagers have access to digital learning.

This organization will go a long way in helping so many teenagers in rural Kenya to turn around their education fortunes, as they will finally be able to keep up with the rest of the world by being able to easily learn.

All this through a simple digital device and data bundles.

But I am just one teen; I cannot do this alone!

I need your help to make the dreams of thousands of Kenyan high school students come true.

Through the Elimu Fund initiative, I am simply acting as a bridge between American teens and Kenyan teens.

You, dear friend, are the real change maker.

And it’s really simple to become involved!

You don’t have to break the bank to make a major difference.

You don’t have to save for months on end to have an impact.

There will be no major dent to your pocket.

For as little as $15, you will be able to give a high school teenager in Kenya a shot at breaking the cycle of poverty, and the ability to compete in the technologically driven world that we live in.

Yes. All that for as little as the price of your lunch!

Whatever amount of money you have will go a long way in transforming a young Kenyan life in a real and tangible way.

And your help is not just limited to money.

You also have the opportunity to donate your gadgets.

If you have a tablet, smartphone, laptop, or desktop computer that you no longer need, you can donate that as well!

My next target is to reach 1000 donations by the start of the next school year, and I will need your help to reach that goal.

Whatever seems very little to you will be a big deal and highly appreciated by a teenager somewhere in Kenya.

You may only consider yourself to be a teenager and therefore a small fish in a large pond, but this is not true.

You can make a change.

Together, you and I and thousands of others teens in America can help change the lives of a Kenyan teen by contributing whatever little we have to our dear brothers and sisters all the way in Kenya.

Let us join hands in our own small way and make the world a better place. There is power in unity!
